Year 5

Wishing all the children in year five a happy and safe summer. We had a super first half of year five with you all.  It was really great to see you all last week and we look forward to seeing you in September as our new year sixes!  Enjoy yourselves!

Miss Patton and Mrs Chippendale smiley

Hello year five, welcome to our last week of the school year!  It was really great to see those of you who could make it into school on Thursday.  Keep in touch and send me anything you are doing this week.  I will be uploading more work to the shared area, so do have a look at everyone's fantastic work.  Have a lovely week!

Zoom update

There will be a year five zoom meet up on Wednesday 1st July at 10am.  The main focus will be to share a little bit of writing that you have done. Children in school will share some of the Roald Dahl story that they are writing, but we are also keen to listen to any other writing/work you'd like to share.   If you don't want to share but would like to join us to say hello and listen, then we would love to see you. Please email to let me know and ensure that parents have authorised your zoom use with school, either by contacting the office or I can send you a quick link to submit.

Many thanks

Miss Patton

Good morning year five and welcome to a new week.  Some of you may be continuing to write your Roald Dahl story this week, so it would be great for you to continue with that.  Perhaps like the year fives doing this in school, you might like to create a book from your story, with a cover and illustrations. If you are looking for something new, you might enjoy this world war two unit which combines English and History.  I will post new spellings tonight and I would also suggest looking at the word list for year five and six which I have put into the SPaG folder. Keep choosing a few words from this list to learn - it will really help you for next year!

Miss Patton, Mrs Winder and the year five bubble. smiley

Welcome back year five!  I hope you all had a lovely half term and enjoyed the warm weather.  Email me with your news and tell me about what you’ve been doing over half term.  Some of you have been writing mystery stories, so if you are interested in sharing your story on a zoom group, email me and I will organise a time for us to share our mystery work.  Do check with your parents first that this is okay.

I will put new spellings up on Monday and new English unit work.  For the rest of this week,  I will add some reading with tasks, Science and topic work, so check these out if you are looking for activities.  There will also be Maths activities as usual so don't forget to keep your mind active in that area.  I look forward to hearing from you!

A taster of Michael Morpurgo's newest novel! Can you predict what is going to happen next?

Good morning Year five.  Hope you are all getting on well and it's been great to hear from many of you.  Just to remind you to keep looking in the Science, Topic and other areas for updates - I will put new things in there each week.  There is also a 'to do' on Purple Mash which is to start us off with databases so have a look!  Keep me updated with what you are up to, whether it's exercise, art, writing, baking, something you've made or a good book that you've read.  If you'd like some work sharing, email it to me and I'll post it on our page! Here is a reminder of my email: t.patton@slyne-with-hest.lancs.sch.uk

Friday 27th March  (vendredi le 27 mars)

Good morning year five!

Hope you are finding everything that you need and keeping busy.

I heard that David Walliams is giving a free audio story online every day at 11am.  He is calling it 'Elevenses'.  You need to look on his official website or put into google 'David Walliams Elevenses'  I managed to find it this way too.  I had a listen this morning and it's great!   There are also lots and lots of activities on the website, linked to his books - have a look and see if you can find something to do for your reading journal!

I am attaching Science below, linked to the next part of our lifecycles work.  We are moving onto insects and focusing on the butterfly. Enjoy!

Art - try this symmetrical butterfly artwork, linking to this week's Science

Wednesday 25th March (mercredi le 25 mars)

Good morning! Here is a French activity to practise some reading and writing for the speaking work we did in class. Enjoy!

Tuesday 24th March   (mardi le 24 mars)

I have set a task on Purple Mash linked to our Rainforest topic, looking at plants for medicines.  If you can try it over the next week as a mini project that would be great.  If you find the template on the site difficult, then use the ideas and make a powerpoint, word document or handwritten project (presented how you think best) which you can email me when you're ready.  Don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions. I'm looking forward to seeing what you can find out!

Miss Patton

Good morning Year five!

Hope you have all managed to find this area and have a look.  There are lots of activities posted and most of you received a home learning pack on Friday - so you have lots of choice.  Just choose things you want to do and which you think will help you and if it's possible to email me anything, then please do! I will look forward to having a look.

You don't need to do everything for each day, this is your chance to organise your learning and make your choices. Also please don't worry about printing everything..that isn't expected....perhaps some things can be saved and emailed too where possible.

Today is lovely, so get outside a bit if you can!  I am posting a P.E. card today, which you can use to give you ideas for the coming days and why not make yourself a chart to record what you do to keep exercising each day!

Have a great start to the week, keep smiling and help at home! :)

year five active challenge card

Welcome to our home learning area!

I'll be regularly uploading new tasks early in each week for you to work with and there will be plenty to keep us all busy! In addition, keep up with reading and use your Rockstars log in to practise times tables, as well as Purple Mash, where you can use the self learning games/activities and where I will also send some '2 do' tasks in the near future. There are also lots of great ideas on the home learning guidance sheets.

I'm here to help as much as possible. I will check my email daily from Monday to Friday and do my best to get back to parents as soon as I can with any questions or communications.

If you are in school tomorrow, you will bring home a learning pack. These are additional useful activities to use as and when.  There are also a host of writing activities to choose from below. If there is something that you are interested in, then have a go and I will look forward to reading it!
