Listen, learn, love and laugh as part of God's family

Week 1 Monday 8th June

Good morning Year 1,

We hope you have all had a good couple of weeks for half term. Hasn't the weather been so beautiful? How did you spend the time in the sunshine? Have a look at the activities that we have organised for you for this week and have a go! Let us know how you get on and remember don't worry if you don't get them all done. It is important to keep up with the basics though, so a little bit maths, reading and writing would be great! Don't forget that we are here to help if you need us. Just drop us an email.

ENGLISH

This week we have one of the Lancashire plans based around 'The Rumble in the Jungle' and 'The Ugly Five'. We look forward to seeing what work you come up with in response to these!

Story time

Each week we will add a different story for you to watch and listen to. You may like to just enjoy hearing the stories but I will also add some activities that you could try too. These will help you practise your writing and reading skills. (Please feel free to do this as an alternative to the Lancashire plans above) This week's story is linked to our science work which I will add further down the page.

MATHS

We are continuing with the White Rose Maths this half term. I will be adding the links to the videos and the worksheets that you will need. This week we are looking at SHAPE. The links to the videos are slightly different as they are in the PDF document below. I have also included an extra couple of lessons on number.

SCIENCE

We have now just moved into a new season. Do you know which one it is? I'm sure you will do as we have had lots of weather that has usual (if we're lucky!!) to see in this season. SUMMER! I have a couple of different activities for you this week based on the weather and seasons. If you haven't done so already then please watch the story 'Seren's seasons' which is linked further up the page. Have a go at dressing Seren for the different seasons using the resources below. I would also like you to try and keep a weather diary over the next week or two. We have completed these before so it gives you a really good chance to compare the weather now to how it has been over the year. It would also be really useful to have a look at the sunrise and sunset times. What has happened to the length of the day now that we have moved into the summer months?

I'd also like you to think about what we have observed over the year and the four different seasons in the world outside.Think about how the trees have changed from one season to another. I have added some more photographs of my blossom tree in the different seasons. Your first task is to identify which tree is in which season and second of all I'd like you to produce some art work or writing to show what you have learned. You could paint a picture of a tree in each season or you could draw and describe a tree in each season. I'll let you choose but I can't wait to see what you come up with. There are lots of great ideas if you google 'four seasons art work for kids.'

RUMBLE IN THE JUNGLE

Over the next few weeks we will be looking at a different theme each week both at home and in childcare in school. This week we are looking at jungles to link in with this week's English unit. There are a few activities below but you might want to choose some of your own.

NEXT WEEK:

Next week our theme will be Oceans/ Under the sea

Have a look at the jungle facts. Perhaps you could do some research and write your own animal fact sheets.

Have a look at this video of children drawing animals. You might like to try drawing some of your own. You don't need to use pastels. Have a go at drawing and colouring in with crayons!
