Listen, learn, love and laugh as part of God's family

Reception 2024 - 2025

Welcome to the Reception Class of 2024

Hello, I am Mrs Cunningham, the class teacher; our Classroom assistant is Mrs Towers. Both of us work full time in Reception, although I work from home on a Thursday afternoon, when Mrs Towers is helped by Mrs Walker.

Please check this page regularly as I try to add some photos each week to show what we have been doing - I try to include as many of the children as I can!

I will also put on curriculum information and the weekly poem which I expect all of the children to learn at home.

Remember, I am always available for a quick chat at drop off and pick up times, do please let me know if you need a longer conversation and I will happily arrange that.

Early Learning Goals

Towards the end of the school year, I have to assess each child on the EYFS Early Learning Goals. I know that this seems like a long way off, but here they are so that you can see where we're going over the next few months.

An overview of the year.

The document below outlines our curriculum and topics for the year. It is not set in stone as we will amend or develop aspects as necessary as the year goes on.

Poems

Each week we learn a poem or rhyme, which is usually related to our class topic. We say these together as a class and the children are always so proud to see the amount they know grow. I will put the poems here, please will you help your child to learn the poem each week so that they can join in confidently. Thank you.

What have we been doing?

Each week I do my best to pop photos on here to show what we have been doing.

Please do keep checking to see.

Half Termly Information Sheets

Each half term I will put an information sheet on here, with a little more about what we will be doing in Reception.

Our Spring Term Poems

Our Autumn Term Poems

Look what we have been doing each week.

We have spent a lovely week exploring the Nativity story, hopefully your children can tell you all about it. We even had a stable role play area.

We have started to make Christmas decorations and our room is looking lovely - there are spaces in our displays for work from the children who have been off this week!

Today we have put a Christmas tree in the home corner and the children love being able to decorate it.

The children had great fun at the Christmas Fair this morning.

In Computing we have had a tinker table today.

The children enjoyed Skip For Fit this morning.

We thought about what Police officers do this week, we also planted some bulbs!

The children looked great for Pudsey day!

PE on the large apparatus!

The children have had a fabulous time learning about firefighters this week.

This week we have explored posting. Look at our fabulous work - paintings, collage, computing and even some writing!

We have learnt about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot this week.

We acted out the story in groups and made (and enjoyed eating) chocolate sparklers!

We found out about Diwali - we had a row of lamps and we heard the story of Rama and Sita.

We have carried on learning about Autumn this week. We have listened carefully to different sounds - we had a walk in our school grounds and enjoyed listening to the crunchy sounds under our feet. We listened to the sounds the autumn things made in paper bags, cups and boxes. We explored vegetables to print with and even made potato printed patterns. We made super pictures with our autumn things.

In the photos you can see our lovely autumn work on the walls in our classroom.

This was the first of our two weeks exploring Autumn. We have had plenty of autumn things to look at, feel and talk about.

In Computing we learnt about giving and following instructions carefully - we had to tell people how to get dressed up!

In our Maths lessons we have used balance scales to make balls of dough the same and we made containers to hold different animals.

This week we explored the topic of Harvest in both our RE lessons and in Design Technology.

We thought about all that we have to be thankful for and we tasted some delicious breads. We explored vegetables, designed a soup recipe and then made our own pumpkin soup. The children were amazing and lots of them really enjoyed the soup!

This week we have been thinking about stars and night time. We explored torches and reflectors, we drew nocturnal animals and we printed these super star prints.

Here are a few photos of the children working, playing and having plenty of fun! They walked through paint to make the footprints, but I was too busy holding them up to take photos!

Look at our fabulous spiders!
