Phonics
Our Approach
We use Red Rose Letters and Sounds, a systematic phonics programme designed to help children become confident readers and writers. It follows a clear structure from early sound recognition to more complex spelling patterns.
Key Points for Parents
- Daily Lessons: Children take part in short, focused phonics sessions every day.
- Phases: Teaching progresses through Phases 2–5, building skills step by step.
- Decodable Books: Reading books match the phonics phase your child is learning.
- Tricky Words: Words that don’t follow regular patterns are taught separately.
- Assessment: Regular checks ensure children are making progress and identify those needing extra support.
Our Intent
- Every child learns to read by age six.
- Develop a love of reading and strong literacy skills.
- Provide consistent, high-quality phonics teaching.
