Welcome to Year 1! We are delighted to begin a new year of learning, exploring and growing together. The children have already settled beautifully into their new classroom routines, and we are excited for all the wonderful learning ahead.

🧠 Our Learning in Year 1

Year 1 is a special year where children begin to move gradually from Reception’s play‑based learning into more structured lessons. We balance this carefully: children enjoy daily Maths, English and Phonics sessions.

Across the week, children will take part in a wide range of subjects including History, Geography, Art, Design Technology, Music, Computing and Science. We will share photos and updates throughout the year so you can see what we’ve been learning.

📚 Reading in Year 1

Reading is an important part of our daily routine. Children’s books will be changed whenever needed, so please ensure reading books and records are brought into school each day. Thank you for supporting reading at home — even a few pages each day makes a big difference.

🏃‍♀️ Year 1 P.E.

This term, PE will take place on Tuesday and Thursday. Children should come to school in their PE kit on these days.

PE kit includes:

• Plain white t‑shirt

• Black shorts or leggings/joggers

• Trainers or pumps

Children should wear their school jumper or cardigan as usual.
