This half term we have been learning all about plants. We planted our own bean plants and watched them grow. Through doing this, we have been able to learn lots about the different parts of a plant and what a plant needs to help it grow. We kept bean plant diaries to observe changes over time and record what had found.
Year 1 have been out in the sun today, looking for common wild plants. Using identification cards and magnifying glasses we studied a range of plants to try and name as many as we could. We then used the IPad's to take photographs and uploaded them for you to see. Here's what we found:
In Science we have been investigating why we wear warm clothes in winter. We designed and conducted an experiment with one cup of boiling water that was wrapped in warm clothes and one cup that wasn't. We measured the temperature with a thermometer at the beginning, after ten minutes and then after twenty minutes. We noticed that the water that had been wrapped in warm clothes dropped in temperature more slowly than the one that wasn't. We then thought about and discussed what this meant for keeping our own bodies warm.
Today we have been looking at signs of Autumn. We collected Autumn items and created a 'big art' Autumn tree.
As part of our learning about our senses, we have been thinking about taste, trying to identify bitter, sweet, salty sour tastes. Most of us agreed that the sweet was the most enjoyable!
